Maksim Markelov
Research Associate

Maksim is a computational linguist and discourse analyst focusing on global digital authoritarian practices, digital resistance, and literacy.

His PhD, completed in early 2025, provided the first substantive analysis of how the linguistic practices of online actors identified as Russian state-sponsored trolls change over time and across contexts. As a Research Associate on the project, Maksim has conducted both quantitative and qualitative network analyses and will continue to contribute to the project’s analytical work as an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Manchester.
